What causes this to happen?
I've included 2 screenshots from here, but it also is happening on my site too. My categories are separated and the category is above forum, Last Post, Threads, Posts. As you can see one category is fine, the other is not. If you're not sure what the problem is, look to the left of "Forum". The spacing is off. I had to add a width to mine to semi-fix it. Problem is it does not look exactly the same in all browsers.
In FORUMDISPLAY Code:
<td class="thead" width="6%"> </td> |

why Bump, Smoothie, you know it is not permitted...
your width have to be in pixels, not in % if you want that to work in all browsers... |

the row structure is different ... one has categories and the other doesn't
vbulletin has it this way to show the separation of forums from sub-forums if it bothers you - you can aways merge that empty column with the next |

Just tried in pixels, it doesn't display the same in all browsers Princeton, if I remove this from forumdisplay, it leaves a gap at the top. Code:
<td class="thead"> </td> |
