memerslist restriction

I was wondering how hard would it be to have a person make a mod to restrict the memberslist to keep spammers out of the memberslist and off the board I have. I want to allow certain user groups like mod, super mod and admins to only view the list.

There's a setting in Usergroups > General Permissions
Can view Member Info? Y/N ... which will restrict a usergroup from viewing Member List but it also restricts viewing of user profile in posts.
