how to simulate http://ideas.salesforce.com/
Is there a way to create an ongoing poll that people can add to as well as vote on?

I don't understand this thread - that site appears to be powered by salesforce.com, aren't you asking for vulletin to simulate this function?

I think he means to simulate that ideas listing where people can post ideas, vote on them and comment, kind of like Digg.

Agreed, I misunderstood san-deep's response. He/She wasn't suggesting a solution, only an example site that displays the behavior. I too have this need.

We might even be looking at a totally different page on that URL, as this thread is 2 years old.

How true! That link does demonstrate the functionality. A more up to date one of course is the link on the first post of the thread. Essentially it is a more enhanced thread rating capability. Firstly I like salesforce.com products and their idea exchange, but in this case Salesforce.com charges a hefty annual fee for this particular feature if they host it. A hook into vbulletin to simulate this functionality would be quite a competing product.

Old, yes, but relevant. I eventually went with an implementation of Pligg CMS. It's an open-source version of essentially what Digg does.
www.pligg.com Someone even built a vBulletin bridge that sort of worked between Pligg beta 9.1 and vB 3.6. It doesn't work anymore and has been abandoned. My own implementation can be viewed here: www.blackbus.org/ideas At this point my Pligg is stuck at 9.1 and I can no longer approve new submissions. If I upgrade to the latest version of Pligg I can't use my custom template as their templating system changed completely somewhere along the way. And so it sits. For a while it was awesome though. |
