How to handle old Users from old forum, while importing data?

Hi,
We are planning to add old forum data in new vb.
We are adding threads and posts and then later on will update timestams with mySQL client.

Can someone please give us an idea about best approach to deal with missing users and other data?Any other recommendation about handling "Users". What we will put in user fields of VB? What is best approach?
As per vb design if we put fields empty, will it hurt or cause issues?
