Thumbnail Caching?

On my forum homepage, I currently display up to 30-40 thumbnails using the "forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=etc..." method. However, I've found that these images don't get cached when a user reloads causing a very long load time and a lot of strain on the server. Is there any way to make sure that these thumbnails get cached?

Help Please?
