Working on a portal, would appreciate some comments
Here's the deal really. I'm working on a portal for my site, and it's really starting to take shape now. (taken me ages to get this far so please don't laugh at it too much)
I'm not getting very far at all with getting the news items to display correctly with the formatting, and neither BB Codes nor HTML work. Apart from that, and the fact that I still want to add a couple more things to it (WOL, Stats, search, maybe a sitemap) I would really appreciate it if some of you guys could take a look at it so far. Most of it is now powered through the vB options (what isn't soon will be, I just need to write the options for it), and it's the grand total of one file to upload and a product to import so it is pretty fixed in it's layout (but coz it's just for my site that isn't a big deal). Obviously it's not live yet as such, but if you know the URL you can get to it. You can find it at www.peterska2.co.uk/portal.php It does need a bit of tidying up, and I will be putting a welcome message in above the news items when I am finished along with a few other odds and ends. Please be gentle with me, I've never even attempted something of this magnitude without seeking help before, so I'm pretty shocked that I have now got something functional that doesn't even look too bad Any pointers with getting the news items to display like they do in the posts would be appreciated as well as general comments. I'm aiming to get the last few bits written up during the rest of this week, then if I can get rid of the bug with the news items I'm hoping to move it to it's permanent location early next week. |

Hmm.. I've never really used a portal nor am I member of any sites that has got it. Okey so I'm not familiar with portals but this looks like something that would appeal to me. You get the over all view of what's going on in the forums, it's just about that information one would want to see. After you've added WOL & Stats it will be complete.
Layout- & design wise it's simple & neat. I'm not sure what you could do about the formatting of the news but I assume you've checked out this tut? https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=82693 Anyways, good job on this. |

Just added the WOL, and stats (although my stats are not working right yet lol - still working on them now) but I will be moving them as I'm not happy with where I've put them.
I'll check that tut again and see if I can get anything else from it Thanks. I'm glad I'm going in the right direction |
