I was curious on how to display a user's member # and also the join date in the posts (I guess that is called the 'postbit'?)

Showing the joindate is an option you can turn on.

Member number would require a template edit, no sure why you would want to show it.

i would be interested in knowing how to display the member # automatically in post bit myself. i know how to do it manually using the show profile fields in post bit hack, but i don't want to manually enter hundreds of member numbers.

however, changing the joindate of a member is quite easy.

admin cp > quick user find > type in user > time options > change joindate > save

The userid is

so just pop that in the postbit where you want it to show.
