Make sure your site is at least partially open to guests otherwise spiders can't access it.
Enable the archive as spiders prefer this to the actual forums as it is a lot cleaner for them to index. Make sure that you have content which is changing regularly. One of my favorites though is to never delete anything be it a link or a thread. I merge RSS Feed threads every month into one thread and have a hidden but accessible archive forum. No-one knows it is there as it is not shown anywhere as it is an inactive forum not on the forumjump. However, I leave redirects for all thread merges and then move all the redirects to this archive forum. This doesn't break my links in search engines while still keeping the place tidy. Any threads I'm deleting (not that I ever really do anyway) be closed and moved to that forum. Make sure that your forum has good and relevant meta tags (set in your ACP > vBOptions > Site Name/URL/Contact Details) and that good descriptive titles for forums are used. Finally, be patient. It can take a while for google to index your site. You may also want to submit your URL to yahoo and other search engines. |
