only usergroup(s) can see forum?

is there a hack where i can make it that only specific usergroups can access a private thread. I mean, the threads I have are hidden, but ppl can still access them via link. Is there a straight out hack or would i edit permission's or something?

this can be done using the default forum permissions; adjust them accordingly.
