Upgrading: What's your take on it?

I'm at a decision making time on the 3.6.1 upgrade from 3.5.4.

I am considering 3.6.1, but then again why not upgrade to 3.5.5 and get the patch. (seems it may be best to wait for add-ons)

I want some of the new features except I already have a few add-ons and hacks I really like that I cannot find for 3.6.1 which makes me think I ought to wait.

If I just go to 3.5.5 will I have to re-install all of my add-ons and hacks?

Even my color scheme is a question because I went through and changed all of my colors the way I wanted instead of a different style. Do I have to redo all of that as well?

It's not a whole lot of work to do all of it again, but I want opinions from the people who are like me that do ths stuff and what they have seen, What they have done, the real world story as some would call it as I am fairly new to this side of the admin stuff.
