PM question

a user asked me if there was anyway for someone else to read their private messages?

as a site admin i can't see anyone elses mailbox but can the web admin?

the way it was described to me was, he user sent a PM to someone. someone else sent him a PM within 3 minutes asking about the same thing he talked about in his PM.

to me it sounds like a huge security hole if someone else can read the PM.

how secure are private messages? should i encourage users to encrypt thier messages?

There is a hack so the site admin to read pm's. But I know of no way for other users to do so.

This was discussed on another board I'm on. You CAN read the PM's on the server. I honestly don't know how and don't care to (that's a whole debate in and of itself) but it CAN be done by the web admin.
