What would legitimately cause time played to be wrong?

Other than cheating, what would cause the time played on a game to be erronously reported much lower than was actually played?

I know it was an error, because I saw the time spent on the game & the time that was recorded.

It was played for about 10 minutes but recorded only about 1 minute.

anyone?

I don't want people thinking we've got cheaters on the board when I know this wasn't a cheating situation.

Could it have been something to do with multiple browsers open or something? Something that might have messed with the session times??
