My users are saying that before I upgraded to 3.6, there were bold topic titles if they didn't read the thread and that when they did read it, it became unbold. I never personally noticed it but I don't really know.

Anyway has anyone heard of this? What part of vB made this happen? The skin, vB itself, a mod?

That is a default vBulletin feature.

Make sure that your threadbit template has been reverted, and if you have not done already switch your thread marking to database
vBOptions > General Settings > Thread/Forum Read Marking Type

Use either one of the bottom two.
