forum gathering mod

ok, i couldn't really search for this, event and registration are too often used in relation to other things here.

my forum holds a gathering every year just to meet and discuss in person. we usually have a registration fee, and collect info from attendees.

if we wanted a registration system for our gathering that tied into vbulletin am i looking at needing to pay someone for the service. or does something like that exist, in any form. has anyone ever even seen something like this.

i have many ideas how it could function but not enough php/java knowledge.

i'd love to hear ideas
