Are you using captcha's for registering (an image you have to type over)?
If you are using captcha's, it's almost impossible that a lot of spambots are registering successfully on your site. When you are still using vB 3.5: upgrade to 3.6 vB 3.6 has got a lot more captcha options to make them more effectively. |

For banning e-mail domains, there's the standard e-mail blocking feature of vBulletin in the Options (User Banning Options)

5-10? are you kidding?
they just typed the captcha. 10 is nothing. if it were a bypass you would have thousands. |
