Server Load...

I am having trouble with my host saying that I am using too much of the servers cpu and ram. They say that I am using up 10% of the server resources. They have told me that if I want to have the site stay on thier servers I will have to move to a Virtual Private Server. Which is 50 bucks a month. What I don't understand is how vBulletin can be causing such a problem with only maybe 50 active members. Less than 20 are signed on at a time. Got ibPro Arcade, and photopost vbgallery installed. Other than that the only two things I can think of that are installed that might cause the issue is the Shout Box, and maybe Top 'X' stats, but I don't think it would be that big of a deal.

I thought my host was a fairly reputable host at www.midphase.com so maybe they are right, but it just seems like they are trying to get me to pay the extra money for the VPS. Maybe I'm being paranoid. Doesnt seem like they are gonna let me go in and back up or troubelshoot anything until I move over to the VPS. So I don't know I'm kind of in a bind.

Any suggestions? Maybe find a new host?

I use a small orange and have way more on my site than you listed on yours and haven't had any problems I would get rid of the shoutbox though, do a search here on it, you'll find that a lot of people say its a resource hog. I had it for about 24 hours and my site slowed dramatically. Good Luck

After I disabled the shout box, server load went down almost 50%.

Not many hacks, mostly plug-ins, and products.

I would check back with your host after removing th eshoutbox and see what they say.

honestly this sounds more like a ploy then anything, UNless you have thousands of posts/topics with hundreds of userso n at a time I don;t see why vB would take up so many resources.

Unless you are on a contract i'd say find another host. I can recommend 1and1.com since I have both a bussiness hosting account and a root server 1 for almost 2 years now with notone issue O_O.

And, please avoid 1&1 like the plauge, their unrealistic policys and restrictions on most shared hosting is insane.

What's the best host you could recomend for a forum such as mine?

I was looking into 1&1 and they looked really good, but with this said I am now definately weary. Can you explain what policys and restrictions you are talking about please? Thank you.
