I was wondering if anyone knew of a hack which would allow members to edit their posts in certain forums.

ie - they could edit a post in the 'items for sale' board but not in 'general discussion'

This can be done using the standard Forum Permissions on a per-usergroup basis - look for the "Can Edit Own Posts" permission in the AdminCP -> Forum Permissions.
