Password fields for custom user profile options?

Is there any way to create a custom user profile option which will display as a traditional password field, so the text is represented as *'s and not as visible text?

I'm creating a POP3 mail check widget, whereby the user can specify a mail account for vB to keep an eye on, and show the number of items and total size in the box(es) in the Welcome box (top right, under the existing PM info).

Obviously I need to have the mailbox login details (server, username and password) as custom profile options, and it would be nice to have the password elided.

You'd use type="password" in the input field to echo asterisks -- but I don't think you can specify input attributes in custom profile fields, you'll probably have to use a plugin to make your own fieldset and what not.

Yup, I'm familiar with the basic HTML form tags.

That's my understanding too, hence this thread.

Can you point me at any documentation or examples on how I would go about creating my own "fieldset and whatnot"? Maybe I'm blind, but I've scoured the usual API docs, etc. Just an example of a mod that does this I can download and crib from would be enough.
