an undo or system restore button for vb?
having just installed a mod on my test forum that messed something up, and i couldn't seem to fix it, i had to reinstall the test forum. which is no biggie, i mean that's what test forums are for. but it made me think, how valuable an "undo" function would be for those of us who regularly modify our boards. i'm not sure how exactly it would work or if it's feasible, but if it IS, what i'd like to see it do is-you apply some kind of mod or hack to your board, and then there is an option, named "backup" or whatever. you click that, and it saves the previous configuration. you install your mod, it goes wrong, and you can't seem to fix it manually. you then go into your admin cp (it should also be accessible outside your admincp somehow, in a secure area, in case whatever you messed up makes it so you can't get into your admin cp), and you click "undo last mod". it completely undoes your last modification, automatically. in the case of templates, it auto-saves a copy of the template somewhere.
this would save SO much trouble..so many peoples boards..and i think it would cut down on the amount of "help-i installed this and now my forum doesn't work!" threads. what do you think? doable? |

This is mostly already in place with the plugin system, where you can disable or uninstall if needed. Of course, this only works if the coder has worked it out that way but a lot of mods already have this functionality built in.

oh i know there's the disable and uninstall options, but those don't always work-they didn't work for me this morning. and i'm not thinking of just mods that have those, but i mean, anything really, that you do to modify your board-it would be great if there was a little button you could click to save your previous configuration, so that if something goes wrong and you can't get it back manually, you can get it back with the press of a button
i have a feeling it's probably not do able, but i'm just thinking out loud, i suppose. it would be a great feature if it were doable. |

Good points, they are steadily gearing it this way though and have made some major improvements with the plugin system.
