Multiple vB Bridge
Lets say for example I have 2 forums, both using vB. I do not want to merge the two under one SQL database, but I want users of either to be able to post on either board. Users of board A can post on board B etc. The member lists would still be separated and searching one board would only search that one. Is this at all possible? Does something like this exist?
Basically I have an affiliate forum that is merging with me, and they want to keep their independence while sharing a user base. Any help would be much appreciated. |

I believe its possible if you are both on the same server, but I am not certain if thats possible otherwise.

I just tried searching for this answer on the site because I recall a thread that explained it. Unfortunantly, I was not able to locate it.

Two forums sharing the same user database is next to impossible to do with existing forums as you have users with the same userid on each board. It's difficult even from new as the code needs extensive editing to take account of the common user tables.
The only real answer is to have one forum, and import the other into it. |

How hard would that process be? Both boards have a large user base and some usernames are bound to be the same.

I've never actually used Impex, so I can't answer that.

What about hacking it so it would just look in DB 2 for the user trying to login when it doesn't find it on it's own?

Using the Impex system is very easy. If you can install vBulletin on your server, then you can Impex your 2 forums. Here is the support forum for vBulletins Import system: http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=92

Alright thanks for the quick feedback, I'll talk to my affiliates about our options. Much appreciated.
