Is there a hack or a way to prune posts and maintain your current post count?

Not that I am aware of.
A good way of dealing with these is to simply move them into a hidden forum. This doesn't affect postcounts, they look deleted, and they are still in the database in case you later change your mind. |

That is an excellent idea!! However my problem is that whenever I try to backup my databse, it ALWAYS times out on the "post" table. grrr

How are you backing up? Via the ACP? Try phpmyadmin instead.

Yeah I was doing it via the admin CP - I installed that nifty auto-backup hack and it fails almost every night due to sql timeouts. I will see if I can figure out the phpmyadmin way instead. Thanks!

Thanks Peter! Where does the file go?

it should download and land somewhere on your PC depending on where you have your downloads set to be recieved.
if the database is rather big, try doing it as a sql.gz file as that compresses it as it goes along. |
