I second EditPlus, it didn't crash my comp when I tried to open a file that due to a php coding error had been inflated to 4gb
It just gave an error saying files larger than 500 MB would not open.Then again I got 2 GB DDR2 RAM, I can't vouch for it not crashing YOUR computer

editplus during early does when converted to vbulletin, I manually parsed/replaced text from a 370 mb large .sql file.
