Trying to create a live side nav bar

I'm trying to create a live side nav bar, which would basically be a pared down version of FORUMHOME. I've done the alterations to make a right hand column, but when I cut and paste FORUMHOME it doesn't provide the information in the cells.

Any idea how I could do this? I managed it in phpBB2.

Can't any of you clever boys help me?
