Moderator Introduction at the top of a Forum
Moderator Introductions at the top of a Forum:
I'd like to have a little bit about a moderator of the board shown directly at the top of the forum. Right now we use a sticky, but sometimes new people don't see the sticky, or don't understand what it is. I have an idea for something that looks a little more user-friendly for when a new member first arrives at that forum. What we do now is edit the template for that forum, to include a blurb about the moderator at the top - so immediately when you click onto the forum to view the list of posts, you can see the information about the moderator without having to click on any posts or stickies. What I'd like is an automated way to do this from the back end. I'd like a place in the ModCP where a mod can go pick their board from a list of all available boards, enter their username, then have a list of default options they can pick to display as well, like location, age, post count, all the things normally shown in postbit. Then there would be a box for them to enter the introduction about themselves. Then when they save, a function would go check and see if they are an allowed mod on that board (guess they would have to be added to the board before they did this, so there could be an error check and the intro would NOT be added if they weren't assigned to the board as a mod). If they are a mod of that board, it would add the avatar/postbit info and the text blurb about themselves at the top of the forum, in the place indicated with the screenshot attached. If there was more than one mod per board, then when the next mod did their intro, it would appear as another box below the first mods' box. This is my idea on how to do it, but here are the features it would need, and it can be programmed whatever way will work. Mod Forum Introduction 1. A way for a mod to enter their username, and it would pull up their other postbit info 2. A way for the mod to choose which postbit info to display in their introduction 3. A way for the mod to choose a forum, or the back end could figure out by itself which forum the mod was on, and would present them with a list of forums to pick from, to enter their intro info. 4. A box for the mod to enter text about themselves 5. A way for more than one mod to put an introduction up on the forum. That's it! |
