By nature yes, but if you keep them active durring the day they will sleep at night. If you have a cat giving you trouble at night just wear him out in the afternoon, he'll sleep with you the entire night.

It's best to do that, else they can keep you up all night.

I had to go to the zoo like 5 times to find this one awake. Every time I have gone, morning or afternoon it's doing it's favorite thing, sleeping!
