Upcoming events - simple copy to FORUMDISPLAY?

I'm trying to copy the Upcoming Events table to the top of every forum by simply copying it to the FORUMDISPLAY template. However, when I do it shows up as blank. As though there are no events. Is there a variable thats not getting initialised in the FORUMDISPLAY template - perhaps an extra something I need to copy?

I'd be very grateful for any help as its quite an important mod for our board.
