username style by gender (or other profile field)

My forum has a lot of interaction between guys and gals. I thought it would be handy to have the username be blue for men and pink for women. In forumhome, who's online, last post, postbit, etc.

I can go into the various templates and hardcode a conditional, but I'm sure there is a better way.

Anyone care to take on the challenge of creating this hack?

This is how I would do it...

There is a hack around here that adds members to a certain secondary group depending on what they pick in thier profile field upon registration.

Create 2 new secondary usergroups, one for men and the other for women. Each usergroup can have its own customized name format, like blue or pink for the names.

Thanks Reeve. That would work, except it wouldn't change the color for usernames on Forumhome (I don't think), and because I have a few levels of usergroups already, I would have to create two for each level (I think).

You can mess around with the settings so that the format for the secondary takes precendence.

I think that there has to be a better way. The problem is that I've got 13,000 members and the secondary usergroup by profile field hack only works at registration time.

What about a hack that changes username html based on a custom profile field?
