can someone please help me as i want to have the word sticky and announcments in different colours.

Edit the phrases announcement and sticky_thread_prefix to suit.

Go to your AdminCP > Language & Phrases > Search in Phrases, type in the name of a phrase, select the "Phrase Variable Name Only" option and hit "Find". Then edit ("translate") the phrase, adding HTML markup to obtain the desired effect.
