Custom Settings ($vboptions) Questions

What is the difference between Free, Numeric & Boolean (Data Validation Type)?
vBulletin Default (Will be replaced by upgrade scripts) - What is this exactly? Should it stay yes?

How do I work with the settings I set so that I have my own $show variables for use my hack's templates:
<if condition="$show['blahblahblah']">
