How to add search and new thread on a HTML frontpage

Hi,
I don't know if it is a hack or not, but I bet some of you might be able to answer my questions. I failed to search that out here.
I want to display like 5 newest thread titles on the frontpage (HTML) of my site with a link to their original page in the forum.
And also add a simple search form that can do search on the frontpage.
Please help, thanks.
