login to non VB pages, restrict by user
I'm thinking about switching my forums from Ikonboard to vBulletin, but I'm trying to find out if there are any hacks or extensions that will allow me to integrate the forums with a php/mysql member database that I have created.
I've seen a few extensions here such as "Simple vB User login and access control on non vB pages" that let you restrict access based on user group, etc, but I want to restrict access to specific users. What I'm trying to do is allow users to login and edit their details in our member directory based on their forum username and password. It's very important that they only be able to access their record in the database, so I think it would have to based on user id or something similar. I only provide listings to members who make a donation to support our site and who are designated as "supporting members", so not all members will have access. Right now I have to edit all the listings myself, because I can't figure out how to restrict access without copying every username and password to the contact table in my database. Obviously, that would create an administrative nightmare and I don't want to do that. Any suggestions or advice would be much appreciated. Thanks, Andrew |

Yes, I think it could be easily done if I understand the question. Until you are a licensed member, I will not tell you how I think it could be done though. Sorry.

the feature you require is quite easy to manage, as the plug-ins system inside vBulletin enable such management of modules like your members database access... actually, vbulletin can enable/disable any kind of access per usergroup, or per user, in a simple hack that would require like 5 minutes of coding...
customizations of vBulletin btw would require that you access a licensed account, because we are not permitted to support any non-licensed member, like amykhar stated in her post. |

Thanks very much for your replies. At this point I wasn't expecting step by step instructions or code samples, I just wanted to know if it is even possible to do what I want. Your prompt responses were very helpful, and it is much more than I received from the Ikonboard or Invision forums.

nexialys is right, since only certain users have access to this page all ready. A simple query+condition will compare the user who is viewing to see if he is allowed to. Hope to see you using vBulletin soon. Nice site BTW

helloineedhack,
You are currently showing up as unlicensed. To be able to download hacks and/or receive support here at vBulletin.org, we ask you to please click here (vB-germany users click here) and enter your email address, to show us that you are licensed. You will need to use your customer number and password (which will be in the email you got when you paid for your license) to access that page. Please note that your email is case sensitive. The update of your account may take up to one hour. Thank you. |

I was wondering, what would you guys say is the best hack/plug in for the external page login. The ability to restrict other pages based on vB is a requirement.
A link here or via PM is great. Thanks for the help! Thanks |
