Is it possible at all?Cross domain login

With regards to this modification:
Simple vB User login and access control on non vB pages

As it's quite urgent (our shoutbox get's a little spammed) I'd like to know wether this problem can be solved at all.

If yes, please help me in doing so, if it's impossible, simply tell me and I will have to see if I can create an own login system for the site - which then can't use the vB database.
