API Question: Attaching a file?

I'm reading through the forums and API documentation and having a hard time trying to figure out how to do this.

How can I attach a file to a new post using the API?

The API Documentation is somewhat hard to understand without examples or commentary =\ and I haven't been able to find any forum information relating to doing this.

Please help? =)
