Ajax, private message

Has anyone thought of doing something similar to vbpager using ajax for checking if a private message has been received every 2 minutes or so? Would be useful so people know without having to reload the page.

I wonder if the vbpager code could be modified [would have to ask the author of course] to get to such a result
