How do I call a bbcode from within a bbcode?

Hi everyone,
I'm trying to add a bbcode called AS that will simply call:

[highlight=ActionScript]{param}[/highlight]

Yet, when I call the function using [as]blah[/as], I actually see the [highlight=ActionScript]blah[/highlight] text instead of the formatted version
