I need to create a brand new template that contains a PHP script in the main content section. I have tried but it only diplays the php code...thanks

Your templates can not contain any php code

You'll have to embedd it inside hooks for whatever page you are viewing the template on. If the template is on all pages, use global_start if its just on the forumhome use forumhome_complete plugin.

Once you define the variables in the plugins, you can call them in a template.
