Cancelling Drop Down Menus

I've got a drop down menu on a forum which is really quite large (well, it's not actually a menu, but it's using the same scripts, functions...)

At the bottom the user wants to have a close button to make the drop down go away. I know the user can just click off the page but they want this too.

I'm using vbmenu_register etc to display the form.

How do I simulate that "mouse off" effect?
