Alternating row colors with vB 3.09?

After many search engine, and vb.com/vb.org searches, and also editing templates, I still can't seem to get alternating row colors to work with my vBulletin 3.0.9 (all the solutions seem to be for earlier versions.)

The effect is that seen in the sitepoint.com forums.

There are three areas I would like to change:

(1) The list of forum titles, like:

http://www.sitepoint.com/forums/forumindex.php

(2) The list of thread titles displayed on a regular page, like:

http://www.sitepoint.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=71
(if you notice, the vertical icon column is a single color, not alternating.)

(3) and very similar to (2), the list of thread titles displayed as the result of a search.

I'm not sure what the appropriate variable would be for Forumhome as the aforementioned poster requested...

class="<if condition="$SOMEVARIABLE % 2 == 0">alt1<else />alt2</if>"

make sure your forum display order is in ORDER eg. 1,2,3,4
NOTE: you will have to replace all the 'class' instances
