So far the only importer i see is a MYSQL DB importer, but my friend is using a DBM database and i was wondering if anyone here knows how to import an IB using one?

I did this some months ago,
In IKon you can make it use an sql dB instead of DBM, you end up with two databases. (It's an option in IKon Admin)
Once it's in SQL you can use the Import script in the members area.

Only problem I had with the importer were, emails to members and passwords.

The other thing was imported posts had wrong user as the thread starter.
But no major problems.

THe server the ikonboard is on currently doesnt have a MYSQL database to use. So how else can i import it?

not sure if there is an easier way,
but install IKon on new server, backup old Ikon DBM, and restore it to Ikon on new server, then change it to sql and import it to vB.

If your Host only allows you one SQL Database then ask for another as a temporary measure.

Im using a DBM and i cant back-it up... seems it wont let me in the admin panel.

Mysql isnt a problem i have a killer server in Mogusland, but the problem is setting up these hosted accounts through my VB... argh... frustrating

If you dont have access to admin then you aren't going to be able to back up the DBM database.
Ikon has a backup/restore link inside Admin control Panel.
If you dont have access to Admin, how do you run Ikon?

Ok, it is my IB. But how do i go from a DBM database to a MYSQL DB if the server the IB is on doesnt have a mysql account on its host.

The backed up IB is being added into my VB. The problem i cant resolve is going from a DBM to a MYSQL when i have NO mysql on the old host. The host will not allow me to have it either.

1. on your old server go into IKon Admin and select Backup, depending on what version you have it may ask you how many posts to do at a time, select something like 1000.

this will create a .tar backup file on the server.

2. Log into the server with FTP and download the .tar file to your PC

3. On your new server Install Ikon but with sql database

4. Log into new server with FTP and upload the .tar backup file

5. On new server go into IKon Admin and change database type to DBM

6. Still on new server, go into IKon Admin and select Restore, to restore the .tar backup file.

after this you should have IKon running with a dbm database on the new server. (same as on the old server)

Now go into IKon admin and change the 'Use Database' to SQL

Now you should have IKon using the sql database, you can now install vB and use the importer to import Ikon to vB.
