Check IP Against Database?
I am not sure how hard this would be to create, but I thought I would give it a shot by requesting it.
I know that vBulletin creates a cookie when a user registers for an account, if the cookie is kept, they can not register another account. The problem is, if the cookie is kept, which in most cases they are cleared, allowing more signups from that IP address. I am not sure about other users, but I don't like having to go through and check the IP addresses of my users and delete account that have registered more than once. What I am asking would be, is there any way that someone could create a hack that would, when a user registers, check their IP against the database. If the IP is not found, they may register, if it is found, it gives them an error message stating they are already registered, to please use the user name they already have. I think this would benifit other boards as well, it would keep out some of the multi-signups. I already know a lot of users IP's change on the brink (as in everyday or every week), but this will keep out most of those that sign up for 2-3-4 accounts without a reason. Anyone else think this would be a good hack? I think it would personally be useful. Any help is appreciated, I could really use it. SaintDog |
