If you can find it here, a search should find it for you .

nexialys: Staff took this into consideration and the same feelings came up. In the end we felt that there would be requests for 3.5 hacks anyway, and if there was no forum they'd just be posted in other, less appropriate forums.

Yup - if we did not make a 3.5 request forum, the inevitable 3.5 request posts would have gone somewhere else.

Actually I do not agree with your rant, I do not know php very well and this is all learning experience for me, but nonetheless I hack my board to add features on it that I want and need, to expect people to know everything about php to run a BB is quite frankly absurd, you buy the product and make any additions you want, it is your board your website, you customise it to your needs, if you make mistakes along the way you hope you can learn from them, and not make the same mistake twice.

To use your anology, you buy a car, it runs fine from day one, then a few months later you want to change the analogue radio to a digital one, now you can't do that because you have not learned how a digital radio works, now that sounds ridiculous I know, but you are suggesting something similar to the only people who use this board and the hacks, if we go by your suggestion the only people left would be coders, so if that is what you want why don't you just come out and say it!

You are using a poor analogy there taffy...

A car is an everyday item used for sometimes key functionality of your life, i.e. you use it to get to work, to school...

To keep in the car theme, you could use something like you buy a Ford Escort RS Cosworth (to use a UK specialist car) - It's not a mainstream car, and modifying it takes knowledge - It's not a trial and error thing because you try and you bugger it up you could cause alot of damage...

Such a situation is partially similar to a vBulletin or for that matter any PHP or CGI powered forum - If you don't know what you're doing, don't muck around on a live site until the mistakes you've made on a test site installing a particular hack 1, 2, 4, 10 or 50 times (or as many until you get it right) are cured...

Now where's the fun in that?! You haven't lived until you've blown up your live site a time or two!

I've done it for fun before

But I knew how to fix what I'd done so the issue was not one of mass-panic

I don't know if people has noticed, but it's really simple installing hacks... You do not need to know php or html or any of that. You follow a few instructions from the hack author and vola! There it is! Especially for the 3.5 hacks, most of them requires little or no file edits.

Saying that you have to know php in able to run a board is absurd. This is simply because, you don't. As long as you don't create hacks yourself that is.

Hi hellsatan,

Maybe it was a bad analogy, but I stand by what I say, I have learnt a lot from the people here about php, I am not expert at it, but still I admin a couple of forums, I don't need to know the ins and outs of every piece of code in the files, the same as I don't need to know everything about the code that are in the hacks, in other words I don't need to know it all, all I need is something that works.

If it doesn't work I am profoundly glad that I got people like yourself to ask questions, if you don't ask questions you are implying everything works to perfection, you will find it very difficult to iron out all bugs if nobody asked any questions concerning your hacks, in fact if nobody asked questions forums would not exist!

Modifying cars takes people with expert knowledge, if you own a car you pay for peoples to knowledge to mod it the way you want, after all you are only driving the thing you don't need to know about every detail of the engine and how to weld everything together, the difference here is that most people are very helpful, and they offer their time for free, this you will not get from your local garage!
