I'm with Fluid Hosting. They've never had any problems with my forum and they've been more than accomodating to me. When I wanted to install the Usenet/NNTP hack, they actually tried to set up their own news server to accomodate me.

I use Saccentral for a couple of my vb sites, my only complaint is that they have not update the library to gd2.0 yet..... other than that, I wish they was slightly cheaper. $70/month times 3 is a lot of money out my pockets........
I do have another site being hosted by Ipowerweb, but they prefer the phpBB and have it preinstalled ready to set up. Took them a while before I could get the vb to run......but they are cheap $100 for a year with a site with an expected 200 users... |

As everyone else has said - Find a new host! One I might suggest is PixieHost. I've been with them for well over a year and 1/2 now and definitely can't complain. With an average of 50-75 concurrent users on a couple of my sites, they've had no problems handling the load.

I host with lunar pages because I'm a bit new to serious web development and it was an easy way to get started. When I decided to purchase vBulletin, I was also concerned that I might need to move hosts immediatl, because lunarpages recommends NOT to use vB. There are mixed responses from admins on their comm. boards regarding whether they would allow it on their servers at all, so i phoned them up and spoke with a tech. He said they do allow vB to run on their servers, and that many people do. Their boards indicated that at some threshhold they will warn you that your forums have become too active for their shared servers. They do not specify exactly what level of activity prompts this action. The tech was cool though, and said: "At that point you've really graduated from lunar pages hosting anyway." I use their e-commerce Voyager plan, and realize i'll have to move someday. Right now I'm trying to get my forum off the ground, so i'm not really worried about this problem yet. I have an open question over in General Modification Discussion if you'd like to help me out. rob |

HI thanks for all the replys... i am indeed with lunar pages. and this week has seen many mails swap between us.
The are very insistant...i would even dare to say patronising, about how I should go to phpbb. my boards are relatively unhacked and rarley do we see more than 10 folks online at same time. So i can only sumise that there is some political or personal reason for them threatening to suspend my hosting... spose i'll just put it down to experience... but to recieve this 2 weeks after signing up for my 3rd year with them... its a funny place this internet thingy. thx again. |

I have found a level of security going with a company that doesn't even have a site. I deal directly with a data center here locally in Toronto, and they take care of my hosting, they have hundreds of servers, with many hosts selling off them, many of which you probably have seen around guaranteed (some of the big players) yet the actual company does not have a website, but their data centeres are top-notch with best security. I get some of the best pricing with them. For ex: pixiehost shared 6.95 for 400 some mb, at this data center, I have unlimited accessability to the server, it is practically like a dedicated server, and I pay only management fees. It probably helps that I am friends, but I have a sense of security that they won't get up and leave, and wont be overloading me on ++++ servers anytime soon.

I used addr.com, and my site lagged so bad it was difficult to open a page at times. I contacted their customer service on many occasions only to be told that I was running too many queries, and that it was essentially my fault.
I transferred my site to surpasshosting.com, and it has been blazing fast. Keep in mind it was the exact same board and setup that was on addr.com. I have a feeling that addr crams way too many accounts on a single box and then expects the customers to deal with it. Regardless, account closed. More than happy with surpasshosting.com + vb3. |
