Templates: These contain the HTML that is used to display the page, for example the banner and buttons are in the header template.

Hacks: These are modification to the PHP source code found in the files that make up vB.

Hi NTLDR,

Thank you for your continued assistance.

Yes, I understand your explaination of copying a topic to another Forum. Do you think this is something that will be offered in vB3? That is the ability to post in a topic and have the new post appear in the same topic in two different Forums.

Is this hackable? Is it possible to place the topic "link" in two different Forums? That way you'd access the same topic from multiple Forums.

Also, is it easy to move a single post to another topic?

As it appears you have some insight to vB3, are you a beta tester? Are there many people tesing it currently. I've seen the vB3 alpha thread at vbulletin.com, but I haven't seen any discussion of time lines.

I'd like to get started with vB2.* and it sounds like it will be a simple upgrade when vB3 is available.

Again, thank you.
Rand

Sorry, I just reread your earlier statement. Do you know if this feature will work appropriately by allowing new posts to display in both Forums? Why can't it be done now?...

As far as I am aware this won't be avalible in vB3, but should be hackable, you can place the link to the topic/thread in many forums, by "moving" it around, there is also a hack that allows you to create threads that are just hyperlinks to somewhere so that would be another option.

This is very easy and a built in feature of 2.x.

The only testing I have done is on the Alpha 1 site, the vB Team are not giving any dates for release but a public beta for members to test should be avalible I September, we all hope

This should be as simple as running an upgrade script and uploading the new files.

The forums as links are just links to somewhere else, another website, or a forum, they are just hyperlinks that direct you to another place and are not "real" forums. I think thats what you were reffering to.

Hi NTLDR,

Forgive me if I'm beating this point to a pulp... but,

You can copy a thread (topic) from one forum to annother so it appears in both, however when you reply to one the reply doesn't appear for the other one, if you see what I mean.

Were both these responses addressing the same question? If so, I like the second response better. It sounds as if vB is very customizeable, therefore creating links to the same topic in multiple forums sounds doable.

The reason this is important to me, is that currently I have about 75 Forums (UBB). Users have to many Forums/Topics to choose from. If I continued to think it important to have so many forums, I might be able to simplify a decision where to post if some of the same Topics were found in several of the Forums.

Not sure this makes sense, but this is basically the maddness I've been dealing with since I started my BB. Unfortunately, I think it's more a matter of content rather then a function of the BB.

Thanks again.
Rand

Yes they are both ways of achiving the same thing, I would recomend the Hack by Chen (aka FireFly) where you or any Administrator can post a link that will look just like any other thread/topic which you can just enter the URL to the topic you want to display when you click on it.

I hope I have explained that in a way in which you can understand
