as part of all distribution systems, we usually only see: "number of downloads"
... adding the "installed" button is for me a complement, not really useful... but to expand the stats to what it means, adding for future versions the "actually installed" thing would be good, but the download count is more interesting... |

I think that the current method is very confusing, since they obviously use the "installed" stats to compile data about the most popular hacks, etc., so when a newbie logs in to the vb.org home page, and sees the side boxes listing the "most popular" hacks, it is actually misleading. The stats do not reflect the current direction/flow/attitude of things, and someone who installs their first hacks based on what is listed as being "popular" will be disappointed at the lack of support or compatibility with the current releases of vbulletin for many of those hacks.

I will use the "install" option for a couple of reasons. If I install something on the test bed, it doesn't mean it's going to end up on the live site. But yet, I may have plans on using the plugin in the future as it matures. So I'll definitely use the "install" button to be notified of new releases so I know when something has been updated.

I solved this problem for myself by clicking "install" on hacks that i have downloaded and tested out or made use of for a period of time.
For all of the hacks that i currently have installed on a live site I have subscribed to the Hack's thread so that it appears in my list of subscribed threads. I like hitting install so that I can get notices when something is updated, approved, or someone finds a security leak That is my $.02 anyway |

i've seen so much times a comment like:
" not installed, but i click install because the coder deserves it" i think that the actual Installed feature is not a "THANKS" button, and have no mean to be used to applause the coder's work... a simple thanks in the thread is enough for me... |

Funny someone else should mention this .. I posted this less than 2 week ago about the exact same thing .... It deffo needs a change ..
Personally I don`t think the hack needs modifying .... But a thankyou hack for the praise of coders installing .... |
