it is vBulletin because of the great microsoft programing language visual basic(vb) of course they used the b for bulletin instead of basic (trademark laws)

There was a UBB forum dedicated to VB (Visual Basic), but then the guys(vB team now) decided to code their own forum, and viola! vBulletin was born

Here's your conspiracy.

vBulletin was originally a PHP/MySQL UBB clone, right? Where does V come in the alphabet? Yep, right after U. V one-ups U.

For the other "boring" answer, vB was originally written for VB world, so the v could have been chosen to have the same acronym.
