So you are telling me that you are upset because your posts got merged?

I really don't see the problem with auto merging of posts, it keeps un-needed double postings and bumps down.

As such, the rules are NOT in effect in the release forums. So I really don't see the problem. But if you can express a specific one you are having please let us know

It appears that there have been enough coders here to express their feelings about this and to give adequate reasons for not liking it.

I posted in another thread here this morning that was related to this topic where I said that this hack here alters the normal acquisition of information and causes the re-reading of posts.

The whole auto merge system came about due to the abuse and constant 10 min, 1 hour, 2 hour, 3 hour, bumps in the requests forums

I understand that.

My point is that there seems to be a better tool out there to combat the problem for the moderators here, one that would not affect so many others.

TBH, if someone is actually constantly bumping threads every 10 minutes, they need an enforced vb.org time-out.

I check this site quite regularly, and I can't recall very many coders/users complaining about the amount of bumping going on. I can't say the same about auto-merged posts. And that's all I'm trying to say here.

vB is a communication tool and this auto-merge implementation inhibits the normal flow information.

YARRRRRGH! Do you have ANY idea of how ****ING annoying it is to have to scroll through endless amounts of posts because the coder doesn't know how to use the Quote function!?
If the coder is too stupid to either use the Quote function or to write out the nickname of the person whos question is being answered, then please let me know and I will uninstall their hacks RIGHT THE **** NOW.

See the above point. This hack has smoked all the dumb people out, and they are now complaining because they don't (and possibly can't) understand the above point. Before this hack was enabled, the aforementioned people were allowed to drive the sensible ones of us insane by making us guess who they were replying to, but we kept our mouths shut because we know that the administration knows whats best for our community. They will add neccesary things if they are just that, and not because people make invalid claims and/or just whines senselessly.

I would like to state that this line implies that your definition of "normal flow of information" means "doubleposting to add lines to a post, because the coder/poster is too stupid to use the Edit function, and the readers don't know what the 'Last edited by:' line means".
And after clearing up this definition, I would like to say "thank God for the inhibiting of normal flow of information!".

My other post, different points made.

As a final statement, I would like to say that if this doublepost prevention hack is taken off, I will lose all faith in the administration's capability of maintaining a sensible and healthy community for reasons stated in this and the linked posts.

Revan your replies are just to aggressive to be helpful.

Everyone seems to understand you are frustrated with other peoples unethical
behavior but by referring to people as stupid and discriminating others I don't
see how you can possible accomplish anything here other than fulfill your own
needs to vent out.

Sometimes if a certain modification takes away a functionality that people
depend on it creates an unfair situation and people instinctively respond with
a call to get things back.

There is room for further developing this hack where it could provide the same
function without taking functionality away from the forums. Just look at
vbulletin.com they run a very large board and they have very little mods and
hacks yet the site runs nicely.

I think the coders who made vB spent alot of time devising features that make
up an interactive discussion software, if you removed double posting entirely
I wonder if those software designers would agree it was an positive solution to
a seemingly common problem.

vBulletin.com isn't a place to post requests for hacks, so they won't run into the same problems as they do here (even though some of the staff is the same...)

I don't see why it is such a big deal, if you honestly can't wait 24 hours to bump your thread, then Revan is right ^^ If you are repyling to multiple people, use quotes and actually put some effort into your post. Personally I'm going to put this on my board, because some many stupid kids post replies 4-5 times in a row, and constantly bump their threads when no one cares.

That's the problem isn't it? If no one replies, usually the either don't care, or can't help. Why harass them?

I think I know what is happening here. This seems more like a contrast in usergroup
mentality than a right and wrong circumstance.

1) The an older usergroups that is not subjected to unruly behavior.
This usergroup having a narrower focus on productivity and advancement and
a strong interest in making use of as many features as possible.

2) The there is the alternate group, a more adventurous one with a wider range of
activities and objectives.

Although this is not a push on a generalization model it does explain why this
topic will never come to rest. Some people here truly feel that this hack is
a worthy positive move towards abuse while others feel a loss of what was once
a useful function.

And with this in mind it is impossible to expect either side to change there feelings
by presenting them with assumptions that he or she is not acting or using the
features of a forum according to code or standards.

For those who feel this is a worthy justifiable change to this forum then you are
entitled to that just as others who do not fit the abusive profiles described throughout
the thread rightfully feel the loss of some unseful functionality.

With this in mind I think it is safe to conclude topic without the need for
further descrimination and insults.
