A host that can use the latest version of vbulletin
Developer Last Online: Apr 2014
I use godaddy shared hosting and they have been pretty stable. I run a small board, 40 users or less at max normally so I haven't put them to a real test, but they've done well so far. The customer service, while not always the smartest, has always been instant, this is something I require with my new host.
I am looking to switch to a similar plan with a new host that can support that latest version of vbulletin since vbulletin 3.6 requires php version 4.3.3 or later and godaddy only gives up to 4.3.1 on shared hosting plans. My plan specs are below: 200 GB Space 2,000 GB Transfer 2,000 Email Accounts FREE! Software 50 MySQL Databases Unlimited Email Forwards Forums, Blogging, Photo Galleries No ads Show Your Support

I have had a relatively good experience with dreamhost. I have been with them for almost a year, host several different websites with them, and have only gone down once due to any issues that dreamhost was responsible for. I currently have 471GB of space, and 5264 GB of transfer er month, and I plan on using nearly all of it every month. My members download anime as fast as their ISP allows and I upload all the time. Daily automated SQL Backups, and some good reporting tools as far as CPU load is concerned.
All and all, I don't think I could get this kind of service for the price anywhere else. I pay just about $240/yr. |

There is no reason NOT to use http://liquidweb.com
I have used them for years, started out with a 19.99 shared account monthly, and now I have 4 dedicated servers with them. I have done so much migrations while I was outgrowing servers, and these guys are insane in speed and knowledge. Seriously check them out |

It's not possible for a host to offer TB of transfer and 100s of GBs of storage for $20 a month. That's just not possible. They "oversell" knowing that members won't use that much. And, if for some reason you come even remotely close they'll force you to get a new plan. Using TB of transfers a month will not happen on a shared server if every member is doing it, so clearly the host doesn't plan on it.
I second A Small Orange, as I've been with them for a while now. Quick customer service and good uptime. Also, they're very customer-oriented and I like them a lot. Anyway, let's stop comparing TB of transfer for this fella and start comparing features and customer service with an eye toward transfer and storage. |

We've just switched our main site over to www.knownhost.com we are very impressed with the support and they even moved all the accounts over to the new VPS. They do shared and reseller hosting as well. The server is nice and quick too no downtime whatsoever in a month.
Lots of good reviews on the webhosting forums too. |

I am not one to recommend any company, but I have finally found one, at least I think I have, that is rather good. It is mjwebhosting.com. My agent is Kamal, who is very attentive considering we are on a virtual server, which was a big change from the dedicated server we were being hosted on for several hundred a month. Anyway, we get 8,000 megs of storage space and 80 gig bandwidth monthly, after being on the dedicated server for about 2 years, I noticed our average bandwidth was around 39 gigs monthly. Considering we have more about 900,000 posts, a video arcade, the only thing we gave up was hosting attachments to keep our usage low, which for the savings I figured was a great trade off, and I simply made members host those at imageshack, etc and link back. Our costs went from $3,800 annually for the dedicated server to a mere $270 annually with mjwebhosting.com. The other thing we lost was root access, but so what. I still have C-Panel and for a $50 set-up fee, I had Kamal move the database to the new site. Sure, we have had a couple of issues but Kamal was ?Johnny on the spot? and took care of everything. Honestly, I cannot tell the difference between this host at $270 annually and the $3,800 annual hosting site.
Contact Kamal at kamal@mjwebhosting.com. Don?t forget to tell him that you heard this from Lefty ? hey, I want some freebies for sending people there. |

I recommend Envescent.net for hosting - they use the very latest version of PHP and SQL (i'm running vb 3.6.4 right now with them, but could run 3.6.5 if i wanted), and their prices are better than GoDaddy and most other hosts, not to mention the other features included in their plans.
I've been hosting with them for about a year and have had no problems whatsoever. Their customer service is also outstanding - they've gone above and beyond in helping me resolve technical problems, and not charging extra for it. Hosting plan details are here: http://envescent.net/content/web_hosting.html Don't go with GoDaddy, i've been with them before and they suck. A few times their hosting was down because they were messing with DNS servers, and if you happen to upload more than your allocated disk space, they will automatically charge you for their next highest hosting service plan, instead of stopping your transfer, keeping you within the allocated space you signed onto in the first place. Long story short: seriously, don't use GoDaddy hosting!!! Envescent rules. No, i don't work for them, this is truly a personal testimonial. I use their Gold Web Hosting. Gold Web Hosting $99.95 USD/year # 10GB* storage & 100GB/month transfer # 50 e-mail accounts # Ecommerce support # Easy SSL integration** # 5 MySQL databases # 5 web sites hosted # 10 domains pointed to sites # Graphical web statistics # No setup cost! # 30 day money back guarantee # Wordpress, Xoops, OSCommerce, Zen Cart, Joomla and more # Toll-free live support * Storage amounts are based on necessity. Please see our terms of service. ** SSL certificates are $74.95 per year for 128-bit high security single domain registrations. *** Based on original pricing of $4.95 a month for Silver Web Hosting plan and $9.95 for Gold Web Hosting plan. See other hosting plans from the link above. |
