Promotions not working
Okay, I'm trying to get around having to make a hack to make you need a certain reputation level to join a public user group, so I did this.
1. Added a public user group for people who want to view certain forums. 2. Added a promotion from that user group to the group that actually can view the forums, based on reputation. However, the promotion is not working. (Yes, I ran the scheduled task that does the promotions.) The user stays as a registered user with the additional group of those who want to view the forums. Any help? |

I think it is because promotions only work on primary groups not on secondary ones so you would need to have it that the public joinable usergroup is a primary one somehow. I'm not 100% sure on if it is possible as I haven't used promotions in ages and certainly not for anything more complicated than being able to give more permissions to users with more than x posts.

Hmm... well, that kills that idea. Oh well, guess I'll have to start digging into the code... x-X

why not just have your promotion and public group the other way round? ie is promoted according to reputation then that usergroup has the option to join public groups whereare the normal usergroup doesn't?

Is it possible to make it so that users can only join a public user group if their primary group is something specific? I couldn't find that option, at least.
But meh, hacking it appears to be a great deal easier than I thought it would be, so I'll manage. Thanks for the help anyway. |

in the usergroup manager for each usergroup there is an option that says something like "Can have public usergroups" set this to yes or no depending on if you want them to be able to join other groups

Well, either way, the functionality wouldn't have been just what I wanted it to be. It was more of a possible way to get around hacking.
