Maybe more or bigger images might give it more of a home page feel. I don't think you need to do much spicing up. You don't want too much spice

Drive fast, turn left is not for me but you have done a nice job.
Tracking out against a wall is insane. I'll stick to road courses with runoff.

I can't see the contact info at the bottom. The blue links don't appear visible.
Nice rounded corners though. Not a fan of calendars but I guess it will make sense once you post race days. Overall pretty nice job.

SUGGESTIONS
1)__ stop using deprecated HTML (eg. font)
2)__ use a darker color fro body and a lighter shade of gray for cell background (this will bring the contents up front)
3)__ the marquee really s#cks ... about 99% of people never bother reading such things
4)__ the "NO" statusicon should be lighter (almost invisible)
5)__ the "CLOSED" statusicon should have a lock icon associated with it
6)__ add a SITE MAP, PRIVACY POLICY, and/or TOS
