Moderating means make sure the community is going according to the rules set, and where possible things run as smooth as possible. Sometimes you do that with some silent diplomacy, sometimes in public.

PS Try looking up what 'moderating' means:

in my opinion a moderator should make sure activity exists (i.e. post = '+') as well as do stuff behind the scenes (i.e. delete posts, move posts, close threads = '-') but of course this argument could go on forever as with us all being admins the idea of what a moderator should do will differ from person to person.
